Description

1969 – David Lloyd Glover
This composition captures the luminous vibrancy of a city street at dusk. The artist has chosen a palette of rich purples, bold reds, and reflective blues, evoking the last glimmers of daylight giving way to the artificial glow of streetlamps and neon signs. Each brushstroke is deliberate, contributing to a tapestry of color that gives life to the bustling urban scene.

The painting invites the viewer to take a leisurely stroll down the cobblestone pathway, guiding them through the historical charm of the cityscape, hinted at by the traditional architecture and the iconic silhouette of the Sacré-Cœur Basilica in the distance. It is a Paris known to both its denizens and dreamers—alive, pulsating, and ever inviting.

Notice the play of light reflecting on the wet street, suggesting a recent passing rain that now mirrors the sky’s changing hues. This element adds to the scene’s romantic allure, a signature motif for an artist capturing the essence of Parisian nights.

The painting also hints at the lively social interaction of the locale; figures are seen mingling near the warmth of the café’s lights, perhaps enjoying a moment of respite or a convivial chat. With a signature in the corner, the artist not only asserts their creation but invites the viewer into this lovingly rendered world, one where the hum of the city is as enchanting as its tranquil beauty.

About David Lloyd Glover
David started work as a full time professional artist in 1969. His early years were as a newspaper illustrator creating 6 original pieces a week working to a daily noon deadline. Among other authors, he illustrated for Pulitzer Prize winning newspaper columnists Russell Baker of the New York Times and Nicholas Von Hoffman of the Chicago Daily News. He learned the value of a disciplined approach to his creative work that has served him well. Glover moved away from the daily grind of newspaper work to excel in the advertising agency business. After years of creating award-winning campaigns the lure of the artist’s studio beckoned once more. This time he turned to mastering the difficult medium of translucent watercolors using the classic British technique. Almost immediately he was represented by two major galleries in Vancouver, British Columbia and quickly earned a reputation for his work as a watercolor master. Glover has been an ardent admirer of the artistic styles of the Impressionist like Monet, Pissarro and Sisley. He was also inspired by the art of American painters namely Winslow Homer, John Sargent, James Whistler and Andrew Wyeth. David lives and works at his studio in Southern California.
